Safety + how to interpret data

Terms v2026-02-10

horiznlab is a community-sourced planning and orientation tool. It is not flight instruction. Always verify conditions with official sources and locals before flying.

1. Verify with official sources

  • Weather: use multiple sources and local forecasts.
  • Airspace/NOTAM: check the authoritative provider for your region.
  • Local rules: club guidelines, seasons, closures, landowner permissions.

2. Community data can be wrong or outdated

Spots, access notes, wind windows, landings, and approach descriptions are user-contributed. Even if marked as “verified” elsewhere, you must treat everything as informational and time-sensitive.

3. Do not confuse “orientation” with “wind direction”

A slope orientation (aspect) is not a guarantee of flyable wind direction. Terrain funneling, venturi effects, gradients, rotor, and local systems can invert expectations quickly.

4. You are responsible

  • You decide whether to launch, fly, and land.
  • You must evaluate your skill level, equipment, and margins.
  • Respect locals, nature, and parking access. Violations get sites closed.

5. Report issues

If you see incorrect data, unsafe guidance, or illegal content, please report it via /report.
